Legacy Of The Sky Volume 1: Crying Sky Review

By chris
Format:Paperback
As a veteran reader of graphic novels of the comic strip format, It was a new experience to read J.M. Bishop's unique novel. You have to applaud the Author's innovative approach combining many profound and intriguing storylines, all throughout accenting them with the manga stylings of illustrator A.C. Charrington.
Volume 1 introduces Janus and his mysterious mentor and guide Zenith, A dynamic pairing of personalities often giving rise to an unpredictable and entertaining course to proceedings. Janus is particularly arrogant and immature initially, adding real humour as the comrades make friends and enemies on their journey from mercenary assassins to warriors fighting for the honour of the Sun kingdom in a deadly showdown with rival kingdoms. The main protagonists are not the only characters J.M.Bishop gets right though, the introduction of a myriad of warriors, magicians, royalty and mythic creatures (good and bad) also serve to take the story in manifold and fascinating directions.
This first volume certainly gives the impression of a fantastic world just starting to reveal its true depth.
By producing a novel with a scope that is as potentially vast as it is entertaining,J.M Bishop has made a truimphant entrance onto the graphic novel scene.

Kingdom Review

So the first episode of the new season of shows has aired and to kick start off the season is Kingdom.
I have been anticipating this series ever since I had read the summary of what the show is meant to be about. Although I haven’t seen much battle/war genre series, the premise of this one had intrigued me.
Why? I am not really too sure, I have been looking for a “war-time” series to watch and love ever since I had seen Twelve Kingdoms and was hoping that this could be the one.

  PLOT SUMMARY

“The story follows Li Xin and Hyou, two boys without families in the Warring States Period when China has been embroiled in war for five centuries. Despite living like slaves, the boys strive to realize their dream of becoming warlords.” – Anidb
“Millions of years have passed since the times of legends, when the worlds of man and gods were still the same. In these times it was the desires of man that moved the world. It is the era of the 500 year war: The warring states peroid. Kingdom is the story of a young boy named Xin who grew into a great general and all the trials and bloodshed that lead him there. “ – Baka-Manga Updates

ONE PIECE FILM: Z

If something is popular enough, you'll inevitably find a movie version or spinoff of it. More often than not, it's because some executive is trying to make a quick buck by using the name value to bring people in to see whatever movie they're selling. While every now and then you'll find a diamond in the rough or a true gem, most of the time the movies feel forced, rushed, or unfaithful to the original material and the quality tends to suffer as a consequence. Shueisha, the publishers of Weekly Shonen Jump have produced multitudes of movies based on their popular IP. If a manga is popular enough, you can almost be sure there'll be an animated or live action movie of it. Or two. Or three…

Anime Review: [First Impression] Attack on Titan - 1

image
The wall falls, the livestock scatter, the boy watches.
——
If you haven’t seen the first episode of Attack on Titan, I recommend that you do because I don’t understand what else could be more vital. As one of the most anticipated anime series of the season, this opening episode showed off its already apparent strengths and forthcoming tone. And I have to say, I am very pleased. No, to be honest, I am more than pleased — I’m excited and I can’t wait for more.

Goku fights Naruto in this crazy J-Stars Victory teaser

J-Stars Victory Vs, an upcoming insane looking fighting game that pits Shonen Jump stars Goku (Dragon Ball), Naruto (Naruto), Toriko (Toriko) and Monkey D. Luffy (One Piece) against each other, has donned its first teaser trailer.
It's basically the childhoods of 80s, 90s, and 21st century kids combined and as awesome as you can imagine, and more character reveals will no doubt be on the way at some point. As my esteemed colleague Tony Ponce pointed out, this has happened before to some extent -- but this is new!

 TRAILER!!

SINBAD
Anime: MAGI

Y’know, I was really waiting for this particular shoe to drop, and I’m so pleased that they actually went ahead and dropped it.
As I alluded to earlier, one of the more striking surprises I got reading 1,001 ARABIAN NIGHTS for the first time (after years of being only familiar with its homages and pastiches) was that Sinbad is actually kind-of useless. Far from the swashbuckling adventurer of the Roy Harryhausen movies, the original Sinbad is honestly just an unremarkable merchant with a lucky streak who, for whatever reason, just keeps washing up on one fantastical island’s shore after another. The fact that he keeps surviving shipwrecks to get on those beaches seems less a matter of “situational awareness” and more just dumb luck.
